Ardincanach, or Black Isle, peninsular district,
E. Ross-shire, between Cromarty and Moray Firths. It
comprises 8 pars., and is divided among the cos. of
Nairn, Cromarty, and Ross. A. or Mullbuie, an
extensive ridgy hill in above peninsula, 16 miles long,
and attaining alt. of 646 ft.

Ardmicbael, small rocky prom, with burying-ground,
Outer Hebrides, on W. side of S. Uist island.

head of Dornoch Firth.

of same name, 7 miles ENE. of Youghal and 14 miles
SW. of Dungarvan, 24,215 ac., pop. 3614; P.O. The
vil. is a watering-place, and has a good natural harb.

Ardnacrusha, hamlet, SE. co. Clare, 2 miles N. of
Limerick and 1 mile from Long Pavement ry. sta.

Ardnafuaran, vil., in Arasaig dist., Inverness-shire;
another name for Arasaig vil.

Ardnageehy, par., E. co. Cork, 5 miles SW. of Rath-
cormac, 16,334 ac., pop. 1659.

Ardnaglass, bay, in Sligo Bay, co. Sligo. See Bally-
SADARE.

Ardnamurchan, par. and hamlet, W. Argyllshire
and Inverness-shire, estimated area 216,969 ac., pop.
4100; P.O. The headland of Ardnamurchan Point,
the most westerly point of the mainland of Scotland, has
a lighthouse (fixed light, seen 18 miles), built in 1849.

Ardoch.—eminence, Dairy par., Kirkcudbrightshire,
alt. 700 ft.—2. Ardocli, par. and vil., S. Perthshire,
7-3, miles S. of Crieff, 22,127 ac. (153 water), pop. 1102.
It is interesting for its Roman camp—the most entire
in Britain—the whole area of which measures 1060 ft.
by 900, and is calculated to have contained 20,000 men;
here Agricola is supposed to have defeated the Caledo-
nians.—3. Ardocli, rivulet, in Kilmadock par., Perth-
shire, flowing 7 miles SE. to the Teith near Doune.

Ardonald, place with extensive limeworks, Cairnic
par., Aberdeenshire.

Ardoyne, hill commanding extensive view, N. of
Oyne par., Aberdeenshire, alt. 600 ft.
