AY. Surrey, 144 miles SAY. of London, 2094 ac. (50
water), pop. 1993; P.O., T.O.; contains Claremont Park,
the seat of Esher Place, and the ruins of Esher
Palace (15th century).

Esholt, township and vil. with ry. sta., Otley par.,
E. div. West-Riding Yorkshire, 54 miles N. of Bradford,
691 ac., pop. 388.

on river Coquet,

Esk, river, North-Riding Yorkshire; rises on the
Cleveland Hills, and flows E. past Castleton to the
North Sea at Whitby; is 24 miles long.

Esk.—river; is formed by the confluence of the
Black Esk and the White Esk, 74 miles NW. of Lang-
holm, Dumfriesshire, and flows SE. and S. past Long-
town, Cumberland, to the head of the Solway Firth ; is
28 miles long, and has salmon and trout.—2. Esk,
river, Edinburghshire ; is formed by the confluence of
the North Esk and the South Esk in Dalkeith Park,
and flows 34 miles N. to the Pirth of Forth at Mussel-
burgh.—3. Esk, loch, near source of river South Esk, in
NW. of Forfarshire.

Esk, Black, rivulet, Eskdalemuir par., Dumfries-
shire ; flows 12 miles SE. to confluence with White Esk.

Esk, North.—river, Forfarshire; is formed by the
confluence of the Lee and the Mark at Invermark,
Lochlee par., and flows SE. (partly along the Kincar-
dine border) to the sea 4 miles NE. of Montrose; gives
the title of earl to a branch of the Carnegies; is 29
miles long, and has salmon and trout.—2. Esk, North,
rivulet; rises iu N. of AVest Linton par., Peeblesshire,
and flows 17 miles NE. through “Habbie’s Howe,”
Roslyn Glen, and Hawthornden, Edinburghshire, to
confluence with South Esk.

Esk, South, river, W. Cumberland; rises between
Bow Fell and Scafell Pike, and flows 13 miles SW. to
the Irish Sea at Ravenglass.

Esk, South.—river, Forfarshire; rises in NW. corner
of co., and flows SE. and E. past Brechin to the sea at
Montrose; gives the title of earl to a branch of the
Carnegies ; is 484 miles long, and has good fishing.—2.
Esk, South, rivulet, Edinburghshire ; rises in Temple
par., in S. of co., and flows 19 miles N. to confluence
with North Esk.

Esk, White, rivulet, Eskdalemuir par., Dumfries-
shire ; rises on Ettrick Pen, and flows 144 miles S. to
confluence with Black Esk.

Esk Hanse, hollow, between Great End and Hanging
Knot Mountains, W. Cumberland, 6 m. W. of Grasmere.

Esk Paper Mills, at Penicuik, in co. and 15| miles
S. of Edinburgh.

Eskadale, vil., with R.C. church, in Strath Glass,
Inverness-shire, 7 miles SW. of Beauly; 1 mile NE. is
