Sark, rivulet, Dumfriesshire; is formed by the con-
fluence of the AA7oodside Burn and the Hall Burn;
rises in SE. of co., flows 11 miles S. to the head of the
Solway Firth 1% mile below Gretna, and for the last 7
miles of its course divides Scotland from England.

Sark, Tbe. Black, rivulet, Dumfriesshire; rises at
Burnfoot Hill, near Sarkshiels, and flows SE. to the
Sark a little above Springfield.

Sarn.1—vil., Meyllteyrnpar., Carnarvonshire, 9 miles
W. of Pwllheli; P.O.—2. Sarn, eccl. dist., Churchstoke
and Kerry pars, Montgomeryshire, 6 miles E. of New-
town, pop. 694; P.O.

Sarn Badrig, narrow rock ridge, extending 21 miles
into the sea from coast of Merioneth at a point 5%
miles SAV. of Harlech ; it is 24 ft. wide, and is dry for
upwards of 9 miles at ebb tide.

Sarn Gynfelyn, reef, in Cardigan Bay, 3 miles N. of
Aberystwith; is 7 miles long, and from % mile to 2
miles wide.

Sarn Helen Way, Roman road, in the AA7. of Wales,
extending from Carnarvon to Carmarthen.

Sarn Hir Way, Roman road, in the S. of Wales,
extending from Cardiff, up valley of river Rhymney, to
vicinity of Brecknock.

Sarn Sws Way, Roman road, from Caersws, Mont-
gomeryshire, to Brecknock.

Sarn ! Dwlch (or Buck’s Boad), reef, in Cardigan
Bay, running out 3 miles SAV. from shore of Merioneth;
is dry for a mile at ebb tide.

Saron, near N. border of Carmarthenshire, 3 miles

Sartfell, eminence, in AV. of Isle of Man, 6 miles
NE. of Peel, alt. 1560 ft; has large quarries.

Sarniu, Old (or Old Castle), par. and site of ancient
city, AVilts, 2 miles N. of Salisbury—par., 75 ac., pop.
21; was early a place of great importance and con-
siderable extent; was made the seat of a diocese in
1072, and had its cathedral formally opened 20 years
later, but fell into utter decay on the removal of the
see to Salisbury in 1220, and is now represented by a
few remains of ramparts and ditches. Old Sarum sent
2 members to Parliament from Edward I. until 1832.
