Seaton.—township, Camerton par., Cumberland, on
river Derwent, 2 miles NE. of AVorkington, 2626 ac.
(29 water) and 638 tidal water and foreshore, pop.
2904 ; P.O.; has tinplate works, hematite ironworks, and
several collieries.—2. Seaton, town with ry. sta. (Seaton
and Beer), Seaton and Beer par., Devon, at mouth of
river Axe, 7g miles SAY. of Axminster, pop. 1221; P.O.,
T.O., 2 Banks. Seaton has risen into notice as a
watering-place since the opening of the branch line
of rail from Axminster. It has a pleasant esplanade
along the old bar of the Axe, and good sands for
promenading and bathing purposes. Pleasant excur-
sions may be conveniently made from Seaton to Lyme
Regis, Branscombe, Sidmouth, &c.—3. Seaton, ry. sta.,

sta., Stranton par., Durham—township (wholly within
the parl. limits of Hartlepool), 2663 ac., 177 tidal water
and 1201 foreshore, pop. 1734; town, 2 miles S. of
AYest Hartlepool, pop. 925 ; P.O., T.O.; is a sea-bathing
resort with a fine level stretch of sands 5 miles in extent.
N. of the town is Seaton Lighthouse, 70 ft. high, with
2 fixed lights 89 and 34 ft. above high water and seen
13 miles.

Seaton Delaval, township and vil. with ry. sta.,
Earsdon par., Northumberland, 3 miles SAY. of Blyth,
2653 ac. and 145 foreshore, pop. 3801 ; P.O.; has
collieries and mfrs. of chemicals. The fine old mansion-
house of Seaton Delaval, property of Lord Hastings,
was destroyed by fire in 1822. A chapel (11th century)
is within the grounds.
