T.O., 4 Banks, 2 newspapers. Market-day,
Monday.
B. is the largest and most thriving town in the co., and
has considerable trade in corn and provisions; the Moy
is navigable to within 1 mile of it. (For shipping statis-
tics, see Appendix.) It is much frequented by tourists;
the waters in the dist. afford excellent angling, and the
salmon-fishery is important. This town was seized by
the French on their landing atKillala in 1798.—2. Bal-

.on left bank of river Shannon, pop. 238 ; it is connected
