remainder consisting of the lochs), 120 ft. broad at
water surface, 50 ft. broad at bottom, and on an aver-
age 17 ft. deep ; it rises 94 ft., and has 28 locks, each
about 180 ft. long and 40 ft. wide.

island is cultivated; the rest is overrun by rabbits.
The cliffs were formerly a haunt of the puffin. On the
highest point (360 ft.) are the ruins of a very ancient
chapel. Calf Sound separates the island from the Isle
of Man.
