Market-day, Saturday. The inhabitants are chiefly

exported. There are remains of a castle and a monas-
tery. Carlingford Mountain (1935 ft.) rises on the
NW. side of the town.

Carlingford, Lougli, a sea-inlet, between cos. Down
and Louth, about 10 miles long and 2 miles wide; has
depth of water for the largest ships, but its entrance is
dangerous from sunken rocks. There are lighthouses
at Haulbowline Rock, at the western edge of the shoal
