Clew Bay, between bars. Burrishoole and Murrick,
W. co. Mayo, 7 miles by 10 miles; has lighthouses at
Clare Island and Inishgort.

Clewer, par., E. Berks, on river Thames, W. of and
partly in bor. of New Windsor, 2034 ac. (58 water),
pop. 9296; contains the vil. of Clewer Green, with
P.O., and the seats of Clewer Lodge, Clewer Manor,
and Clewer Park.—

Cley next the Sea, par. and vil., N. Norfolk,

P.O., T.O., called Cley; had once an extensive trade in
corn, but from the silting up of the harb. the commerce
of the port is now inconsiderable. Prince James (after-
wards James I.) of Scotland was captured off C. in 1409.

Connemara, AY. co. Galway, 50 miles NAY. of Galway
and 49 miles SAY. of Westport, pop. 1287; P.O.,T.o.,
1 Bank. Market-day,
Saturday; of modern origin, and
much frequented by tourists for the grandeur of the
coast and mountain scenery in the district. Large
quantities of lobsters and kelp are exported. Quarries
of green and white marble are worked to a small ex-
tent. The seat of Clifden Castle is near the town.—

Kent, 5 miles E. of Gravesend, 5696 ac. (74 water) and
2065 tidal water and foreshore, pop. 2245; p. o., T. o. The
vil., which is 1 mile N. of sta., overlooks the marshes
from a ridge of chalk. Cliffe at Hoo is supposed to be
“Clovishoe,” where the Saxon Church held its councils.
