Curragh,* an extensive plain or common, and the
principal racing-ground of Ireland, in mid. of co. and 2

of the Crown, and forms an extensive sheep-walk. The
races are held in April, June, September, and Octo-
ber. The Cnrragh Camp is one of the chief military
encampments in Ireland, and the headquarters of the
SE. military district; P.O., T.O. There is accommoda-
tion for 12,000 troops. The present encampment was
established in 1855.
