Lochinvar, loch, Dairy par., Kirkcudbrightshire; contains an island on which are vestiges of the ancient fortalice of the Gordons of Lochinvar; Lochinvar Lodge is 6 miles NE. of New Galloway.

Market day, Monday. Lochmaben is environed by lochs, of which there are around it no less than 7. On a peninsula in Castle Loch are the ruins of Lochmaben Castle, the ancestral residence of the Bruces, under whom the town was anciently one of the most important on the Border. Lochmaben has some mfrs. of stockings and shirts. It forms one of the Dumfries District of Par- liamentary Burghs, which returns l member.
Lochmaddy, vil., North Uist island, Outer Hebrides, Inverness-shire, on W. shore of Loch Maddy; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank ; is the chief place in North Uist island, and has regular steamboat communication with Skye and the mainland.

Lochnaw Castle, seat of the Agnews of Lochnaw, Leswalt par., AVigtownshire, on the S. side of the White Loch, 5| miles NW. of Stranraer; the ancient castle of Lochnaw stood on an island in the White Loch.
Lochnell House, ruin, Ardchattan and Muckairn par., Argyllshire, at head of Loch Nell, 12 miles NW. of Taynuilt; adjacent are the ruins of the Lochnell Observatory.
