Neagh, stream, Denbighshire, falling into the Conway

Neagh, Longh, in Ulster province, bordering N. and
E. on co. Antrim, S. on cos. Armagh and Down, and
AY. on cos. Tyrone and Londonderry. It is the largest
sheet of fresh water in the British Islands, being 19
miles by 12 miles, and 60 miles in circuit; 48 ft. above
sea-level; greatest depth, 102 ft. ; area, 98,255 ac. It
lias flat sandy shores, and contains only a few small
islands. Its great outlet is the river Bann, which issues
from the NW. extremity. A canal connects it with
Belfast, Newry, and Lough Erne.
