III., is now an interesting ruin, in a beautiful situation;
at Netley are the Army Medical School and the Royal
Victoria Military Hospital (1857), the latter with accom-

Neville’s Cross, in co. and 1% mile SW. of Durham;
here (October 17, 1346) the Scots were defeated, and
King David Bruce taken prisoner; the cross, raised to
commemorate the event, was destroyed in 1589.

Nevin, pari, bor., seaport town, and par., in SAV. of
Carnarvonshire, on Carnarvon Bay, 6 miles NAV. of
Pwllheli, 1575 ac., pop. 2003; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank.
Nevin is an extensive fishing town, and occupies a
secluded situation, being shut in on 3 sides by a semi-
circular range of hills. It ranked as an ancient incor-
poration. In 1284 a grand tournament was held here
by Edward I. to celebrate his conquest of AVales. Nevin
forms one of the Carnarvon District of Parliamentary
Boroughs, which returns 1 member.

Nevis, Bridge of, hamlet, Kilmonivaig par., SW.
Inverness-shire, on the Water of Nevis, 1 mile NE. of
Fort William; in vicinity are the Nevis and the Ben
Nevis Blstllleries.

Nevis, Loch, arm of the sea, Glenelg par., W. Inver-
ness-shire ; is 14 miles long and from 1 to 4 miles wide.
