Ouse. — (or Great ©use), river; rises in SW. of
Northamptonshire, flows in a winding course, mainly
E., through Bucks, Bedfordshire, Huntingdonshire,
Cambridgeshire, and Norfolk, to the Wash below King’s
Lynn; has a total course of 156 miles, and is navigable
for about two-thirds of its length. — 2. ©nse, river,
Sussex; rises near St Leonards Forest, and flows SE.
and S. past Lindfield, Fletching, and Lewes to the
English Channel at Newhaven; is 30 miles long.—3.
©use, river, Yorkshire ; is formed by the confluence of
rivers Ure and Swale 1 mile E. of Aldborough, and
flows SE. past York, Selby, and Goole to its confluence
with the Trent, with which it unites to form the
Humber; is 45 miles long.

©nse, Little.—eccl. dist., Feltwell, Felt well Anchor,
Hilgay, and Redmorcpars., Norfolk, and Littleport par.,
Cambridgeshire, pop. 921; the church is 3 miles S. of
Downham Market. — 2. ©use, Little (or Brandon),
river; is formed by 2 head-streams, the one in Norfolk,
the other in Suffolk, and flows 30 miles NW. (24 miles
along the border of the 2 counties) to the Great Ouse at
Brandon Bridge.

©use Viaduct, railway viaduct, across the river
Ouse, Sussex, between Balcombe and Hayward’s Heath
stations; is one of the finest works in the kingdom;
consists of 37 arches, and is 99 ft. high.

©use and Derwent, wapentake, in N. of East-
Riding Yorkshire, between rivers Ouse and Derwent,
55,345 ac., pop. 15,498.
