Market-day, Saturday. Lead mines and stone quarries are numerous here, and active industries are carried on in flaxspinning and brewing; there are also important cattle and sheep fairs. Four miles from the town is a curious and beau- tiful series of caverns, encrusted with stalactites and stalagmites, discovered in 1860.
Pater (or Pembroke Dock), on NW. side and in bor. of Pembroke; Pater was a small village until 1814, when the Royal Dockyard for the construction of ships of war was removed thither from Milford Haven. See Pembroke and Pembroke Dock.
