3 miles AY. of Linney Head; is § mile long.

Poringland, Great, eccl. dist. and vil., Great and
Little Poringland par., Norfolk—dist., pop. 436; the
vil. is 54 miles SE. of Norwich.

par., Norfolk, 1740 ac., pop. 471.

Porkellis, hamlet, in SW. of Cornwall, 54 miles NE.
of Helston; p.o.

Porkington, hamlet, Selattyn par., Shropshire, 1J
mile NW. of Oswestry; in vicinity is Porkington
House, seat.

Porlock, par. and vil., Somerset—par., 6019 ac.
(355 water), pop. 765; vil., 14 mile S. of Porlock Bay
and 6 miles W. of Minehead; P.O.; is an ancient place,
and was a seat of the Saxon kings. It presents a pic-
turesque appearance, and it holds three fairs yearly.
The Yale ot'Porlock is 1 mile in width, and is bounded
on the S. by slopes which culminate in Dunkery
Beacon. Porlock Bay, on the Bristol Channel, is 44
miles wide, and overhung by lofty cliffs.

Porloe Cove, rocky cove, on AY. coast of Cornwall,

24 miles SE. of Lands End.

Pornanyon Cove, St Just in Penwith par., Corn-
wall, in S. vicinity of Cape Cornwall.

Port.—hamlet, 5 miles AY. of Mountcharles, S. co.
Donegal, on Inver Bay.—2. Port, par., S. co. Louth, 4

Port Appin, vil., Lismore and Appin par., N.
Argyllshire, on E. shore of Loch Linnhe, 24 miles SAY.
of Appin and opposite the N. extremity of Lismore
island; P.O.; is a ferry sta.

Port Askaig, seaport vil., Islay island, Argyllshire,

011 Sound of Islay, 10 miles NE. of Bowmore; P.O.,
t.o., called Portaskaig.

Port Ballintrae, coast vil., Dunluce par., N. co.
Antrim, 2 miles NAY. of Bushmills, pop. 103 ; P.O.

Port Bannatyne (or Karnes burgh), vil., North
Bute par., Bute island, Firth of Clyde, on Kames Bay,

24 miles NAY. of Rothesay, pop. 651; P.O., t.o. ; is a
summer resort and a herring fishery sta., and has a 1
steamboat pier, a hotel, and a hydropathic establishment.

A tramway extends between the vil. and Rothesay.

Port Carlisle, in N. of Cumberland, on Solway
Firth, 12 miles NW. of Carlisle by rail; was formerly
connected by canal with Carlisle, as the harbour of
which it has been superseded by Silloth.

Port Charlotte, vil., Kilchoman par., Islay island,
Argyllshire, on AY. shore of Loch-in-Daal, opposite Bow-
more, pop. 502; P.O.; has an inn and a distillery.

Port Clarence, small port with ry. sta., Durham, at
N. side of mouth of the Tees, 9 miles S. of Hartlepool
by rail and 4 miles NE. of Stockton; P.O., t.o.; is a
port for the shipping of coal, and is rapidly becoming a
place of importance. Middlesbrough is reached by
means of a ferry across the Tees.

Port Crinan (or Crinan), vil., Kilmartin par., Ar-
gyllshire, on Loch Crinan, near W. end of Crinan Canal;
P.O., T.O., called Crinan Pier. See Crinan.

Port Dinorwic (or Dinorwig), seaport vil. with ry.
sta., Llanfair-is-Gaer par., Carnarvonshire, on Menai
Strait, 44 miles NE. of Carnarvon by rail; P.O., t.o.
The port serves for the embarkation of slates from the
Llanberis slate quarries, which maintain a considerable
shipping traffic here. The harbour affords safe anchor-
age for vessels of 200 tons burden.

Port Dundas, quoad sacra par., Barony par., Lan-
arkshire, in N. suburbs of Glasgow, pop. 4717; Port
Dundas is situated at the junction of the Forth and
Clyde and Monkland Canals, and has a distillery.

Port Edgar, ry. sta. and small harbour, Dalmeny
par., Linlithgowshire, on Firth of Forth, 1 mile W. of
Queensferry; here George IV. embarked (15th August
1822) on his return to England.

Port Eglinton, former terminal basin of the Glasgow
and Johnstone Canal, on S. side of Glasgow.

Port Eliot, ancient mansion, seat of the Earl of St
Germans, near St Germans, Cornwall.

Port Ellen, seaport vil., Kildalton par., Islay island,
Argyllshire, 12 miles SE. of Bowmore, pop. 989 ; P.O.,
T.o.; has a commodious quay, and carries on a con-
