Rona.—island, Portree par., Inverness-shire, between Skye island and the mainland, 11% miles NE. of Portree, pop. 176 ; is 4| miles long and 1% mile at the broadest, and has an extreme alt. of 404 ft.; on NE. point is a lighthouse 42 ft. high, with flashing light (South Rona) 222 ft. above high water and seen 21 miles.—2. Rona, small island, Barvas par., Outer Hebrides, Ross, 44 miles NE. of Butt of Lewis and 44 miles NAV. of Cape AVrath ; has remains of an ancient oratory.
Ronaidshay, Nortk, island (forming a quoad sacra par.), Cross and Burness par., Orkney, pop. 547; is the most northerly of the Orkney Islands, measures 3 miles long and 2 miles broad, is generally low and flat, and has a sandy but fertile soil; on NE. point of island, and N. point of Orkneys, is a lighthouse 139 ft. high, with flashing light (North Ronaldsha) 140 ft. above high water and seen 18 miles.
Ronaidshay, South, island and insular par., Orkney —par. (including also the islands of Burray, Hunda, Swona, and Pentland Skerries), 15,062 ac., pop. 3314; island, pop. 2557. South Ronaidshay island is the most southerly of the Orkneys with the exception of Pentland Skerries, is 7£ miles in extreme length and from 1% to 6 miles broad, and reaches an alt. of 389 ft.; at Burwick, in SAV. of island, is tbe cliurch of St Marys, South Ronaidshay quoad sacra par., pop. 695.
