Skerryvore Lighthouse, on rock in the Atlantic,
Tyree par., Argyllshire, 10 miles SAY. of Tyree island;
is 158 ft. high, with revolving light 150 ft. above high
water and seen 18 miles, and was constructed in 1838-44
at a cost of £86,977.

Skerton, township, Lancaster par., N..Lancashire, on
the river Lune, forming a N. suburb of Lancaster,
1316 ac. (55 water), pop. 2838; P.O. ; a handsome
5-arched bridge unites Skerton with Lancaster.

Saturday. Has extensive retail business, and con¬
siderable trade in corn and other agricultural produce.
The river is navigable for small vessels to the town,
and for larger ones as far as Old Court, 3 miles further

Skibo Castle, seat, in par. and 4 miles SW. of
Dornoch, Sutherland.

Skidbrook, par. and vil., Lincolnshire—par. (con¬
taining Saltfleet vil.), 2165 ac. land and 1290 water,

Skiddaw.—mountain, in the centre of Cumberland,
on E. side of Bassenthwaite Water, 3½ miles N. of Kes¬
wick, alt. 3054 ft.; forms an oblong mass 8 miles by
7, consisting chiefly of clay slate, and includes Saddle¬
back, Linthwaite Fell, and the Caldbeck Fells; the
central part bears the name of Skiddaw Forest; on
SW. side of mountain is Skiddaw Dodd (or Dodd
Fell), alt. 1612 ft.—2. Skiddaw, par., Cumberland,
near Cockermouth, 2969 ac., pop. 10.

bathing resort, and is engaged in the herring fishery.
Skinburness (or Cote) Lighthouse is 32 ft. high, and
has a fixed light 40 ft. above high water and seen 9 m.
