Thursday. Stockbridge is an ancient
place, and sent 2 members to Parliament till 1832. In
addition to the weekly market there is an annual fair
for lambs. A racecourse and a training establishment
for racehorses are here. The town is a resort of anglers,
who obtain good trout fishing in the Test and neigh¬
bouring streams. An ancient camp and some tumuli
are in the vicinity of the town.
