Walton on the Naze (or Walton le Soken), small
town and par. with ry. sta., Essex, in NE. of co., at
terminus of railway, 7 miles S. of Harwich, 18 miles
SE. of Colchester and 70 NE. of London by rail, 2146
ac. (45 water) and 1061 tidal water and foreshore, pop.
1371; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Walton is a rapidly growing
watering-place, with a pier and esplanade, and a fine
beach of firm sands affording excellent and safe bath-
ing. It is
a local government district. The church is
modern, the ancient building, together with the church-
yard and nearly all the old village, having been swal-
lowed up by the sea. The cliffs abound in fossils and
antediluvian remains.
