AVotton has long claimed to be a prescriptive incorporation, under charter of Henry III. It has a handsome church, literary institution with library and reading-room, and endowed grammar and blue-coat schools. The manufacture of woollen, once a considerable industry at AYotton, has somewhat de- clined. In addition to the weekly market, there are markets on the first Tuesday of every month, and fairs in March and September.
