Monongahela, a river of the United States, which rises in Virginia, at the foot of the Laurel Mountains, flows N. by Morgantown, where it becomes navigable, then enters Pennsylvania, and passes by Redstone to Pittsburg, where it meets the Alleghany, and their united streams assume the name of Ohio.

Meiwrim, a flourishing town on the coast of Africa, fannied by the Americans. It is the cap- ital cf a district named Liberia. It contains a public library, a court-house, meeting-houses, school houses, an infirmary. Ac. The houses are constructed of the same materials and finished in the same strle as in the towns of the United States. In the vicinity good building stone, shells for lime, and excellent clay for bricks, abound. Timber of various kinds, lit for all the purposes of building and fencing, is also plenti- ful. Mans, a strong town of the Netherlands, capital of Hainault. The most remarkable buildings are the castle, the arsenal, the townhouse, and th* great church. It is a place of good trade, has considerable manufactures of woolen stuffs, cot- tons, lace, earthenware, Ac., as also iron founderies and salt works, and contains 25,000 inhabitants. Mons has been several times taken by the French, Dutch and Austrians. It stands partly oh a hill and partly on a plain, on the river Trouille, 30 m. S. S. W. of Brussels. Long. 3. 57.
