This place is situated at the foot of a very steep hill, in a narrow part of Wharf- dale, and together with the neighbour- ing village of Starbottom, was nearly destroyed by a violent flood in 1686. The church, which was of high anti- quity, was taken down in 1820, and a new one was erected on its site, on the same plan.
