Edward Irving (1792-1834), the famous preacher, was born here. The burgh unites with Dumfries, Lochmaben, Sanquhar, and Kirkcud- bright in returning 1 member to Pari.—2. Annan, river, Dumfriesshire; rising on the Moffat Hills in N. of co., near the sources of the Clyde and Tweed, it flows S. to the Solway Firth If mile below Annan, and is in all 49 miles long. Its chief tributaries are the Evan, Moffat, Kinnel, Dryfe, Milk, Mein, and Wamphray. |
