Jaen,a province of the eastern part of Andalu- sia, surrounded bv the provinces of La Mancha, Murcia, Granada, and Cardova. Its territorial extent is 4,760 sq. m.; and its pop. about 207,000. ThSs province, though badly cultivated, produ- ces wine, oil, silk, and corn, especially along the Guadalaqnivir, which is the largest river in the province. Jaen was formerly a kingdom; and the king of Spain, still takes the title of king of Jaen, although it is now included in the govern- ment of Andalusia.
